As others have stated, the PS4 almost certainly will include split screen. That being said, you'll really want your friend to invest in their console/copy of Ark. The tethering distance to the host is (currently) annoying on so many levels, it really holds back the full potential of what two players could do together.
Borderlands did it right. Diablo 3 doesn't do split screen but it does have local co-op campaign. Can't get enough of playing this on the couch with some mates. Diablo 3 is one of the best local co-op games you can find, but it isn't true "split" screen, but shared screen. Fantastic game. Playstation. As soon as 1.4 came out for PS4, I haven't been able to play multiplayer and split-screen at the same time. I don't think there has been a bug fix in the new update either. Whenever my cousin or I host a world and someone tries to join as player two, nothing happens. Yet when it isn't multiplayer, the person can join with no problem.
